How to create a beautiful winter engagement session {Sandpoint Idaho Photographer}

Hi my name is Tanyia Oulman I am the owner of Tanyia Oulman Photography. I did this bright and colorful winter engagement session this past December here in gorgeous Sandpoint Idaho, where I am so happy to call my home!! This session has been featured on “Applebrides” so if you are getting married in the inland northwest you may already be familiar with them. I am known for my bright, colorful images, although I do like black and white photos as well but I just love making my photos pop with color!! This post is not only to show off this beautiful winter engagement session with Shelby and Kyle but to give you tips on how to get bright beautiful images in the snow. A lot of people are typically are afraid that if they get their pictures done in the wintertime that their pictures will be washed out. But as you can see from the pictures below the white snow makes a beautiful canvas to bright colors this adorable couple is wearing. Shelby has a real talent for combining colors. I don’t tell my clients what to wear, I can only give them examples of what works best;) As you can see from the images the blues and reds really stand out against the white backdrop. Of coarse where you have your photo shoot accounts for a lot as well. The different textures of the different species of trees adds a lot of contrast and interest to the pictures. If we had the the shoot in a field the outcome would not be the same no matter how much color you are wearing. Notice in the first part of the shoot with the aspen trees that she is wearing a blue dress and he is wearing a blue shirt but the shirt has a plaid design to it. And even though she is wearing a white sweater there is enough color to the image by just the dress, his jeans and his shirt. The boots make a nice compliment as well. In the second part of the shoot notice that she is wearing plaid this time and he is wearing stripes. The brown in her plaid matches the color of her hair and her boots. I love how the different patterns on their shirts give the pictures visual interest.

It used to be as a rule photographers would tell their clients that solid colors are best. I don’t think so at all!! I like prints and lots of accessories as long as they look good with your partners clothes!! I get asked by my clients all the time, “what should I wear to our photo shoot?” Well that is a loaded question! I ask my clients to think about what their favorite colors are and depending on the season that may make a big difference. You also have to keep in mind where you will be having the session. If you are a visual person like me and you need help envisioning what looks good together than it helps to visit sites like Pinterest. You can get all sorts of ideas for each season even. Just type in for example “Outfits for summer photos” in the pinterest browser. And you will see your options are endless. You can also get lots of great ideas for places to take pictures as well. I love having my clients make a pinterest board of their favorite pictures and sharing them with me. I want you to love your pictures so the more I know what you like the better your pictures will be.
Whether you shoot is in the winter, summer, spring or fall. It is important to keep in mind what you wear will affect what the outcome of what your pictures will look like. So if you have a photo shoot coming up you might want to start thinking about about what you will wear;)

Thanks so much for viewing!!

Fun, Country engagement shoot|Sandpoint engagement photographer

I have been so excited to put this beautiful engagement session up on the blog and share it with all of you. This shoot was done in my old stomping grounds outside of Davenport Washington. It was raining off and on all day and we were a bit worried we wouldn’t be able to do it but it was perfect right until we were finishing up when it finally let loose! Maddi and Chad wanted a unique engagement session and I was so excited when Maddi told me about their farm equipment grave yard. I love old rustic things such as trucks and tractors. And being a Sandpoint engagement photographer, it was nice to get a different change of scenery. Yes the sage brush was calling my name. I used to live up the road in Wilbur Washington and I felt right at home shooting back where I first started my career as a photographer. I had the best time with Maddi and Chad they were so much fun and easy to work with. I know their wedding this summer will be beautiful and just as fun!!! Thank you both for choosing me to capture one of the most important days of your life. I feel so honored and truly blessed.

If you are planning a wedding in the near future and like my work maybe we would be a good fit! I would love to meet with you and talk about your special day!!! I give a complimentary engagement session like this one when you book an 8 hour wedding package.

Sandpoint winter engagement pictures

Trinette and Tony’s Sandpoint winter engagement pictures

I am so excited to share this post on my blog today. I love this Sandpoint winter engagement pictures shoot. I had so much fun with this adorable couple, Trinette and Tony! It was 22 degrees outside but from the pictures you can’t tell, I think they managed to keep each other warm:) Winter engagement shoots are so beautiful. The snow makes the perfect bounce light for the photographs. Most couples want spring, summer and fall engagements, so I was thrilled when they requested Sandpoint winter engagement pictures.

Some tips on getting the best Sandpoint winter engagement pictures

When getting your engagement pictures done in the winter time with snow on the ground you will want to keep in mind a few things first.

1. wear pops of color like red and blue, something other than white to give the picture contrast. If you wear white the pictures will look a bit bland because you will blend right in;)

2. Take pictures in an area that have different contrasting backgrounds (not just snow for miles) Having trees, rocks or objects of interest will make your pictures stand out more!!

3. Dress for the weather! This is important. If it is snowing outside you will want to wear clothes that reflect what season it is. Your pictures might look a bit silly if you decide to go with a short sleeve shirt, or a mini skirt on such a cold day. Not to mention that my camera will pick up every little goose bump on you and is a nightmare to photoshop all those images. Dress in layers. Bring different outfits and I will help you choose a couple;)

So your looking for a Sandpoint Idaho engagement photographer

Your newley engaged and now the planning begins!!! The trend of getting engagement pictures done is becoming more and more popular among newly engaged couples these days. If you live in the Sandpoint area then you are looking for a Sandpoint Idaho engagement photographer.. Well there are some things to take into consideration. You might want to consider choosing the same photographer for your wedding that will be able to do your engagement pictures too. Choosing a photographer is the single most important decision you will make because when the day is over all you will have left is the images from your amazing day.

Which Sandpoint Idaho engagement photographer is right for you?

Most couples who are looking for aSandpoint Idaho engagement photographer will want to use the pictures for a save the date card or use them for their actual wedding invitations. You will want to meet with at least 3 photographers before you choose the one who is right for you. Some things to keep in mind:

1. Do you love their past work? You want to choose someone who has past work to show you. It is important that you like their style of photography.

2. Do they have professional camera equipment. I feel it is important for my clients to know what kind of equipment I use so they know that they are getting a good value for choosing me as their photographer. I suggest asking what camera body they use and later check if it is considered a professional camera or not. There is a lot of photographers out there that charge a very high price using substandard equipment. Believe me it makes it big difference in how your pictures look.

3. What are their prices like? Are their prices going to fit into your budget. It is easy to break the bank when planning for your wedding and yes the photographer is important but you want to choose one that gives you great images for a great price too. And one that offers affordable products such as albums and enlargements.

free shoot with your Sandpoint Idaho engagement photographer

With every wedding booking I give away a free engagement shoot. The main reason I do this is so we get that opportunity to really get to know each other. For me it is important to build a relationship with my clients so they establish trust in me. You have enough things to worry about on your big day than to worry about the photographer. By doing your engagement shoot you will feel comfortable in having me take your pictures and you will get a sense in how your wedding pictures will turn out. The more comfortable you are with your photographer the more natural your pictures will look. To view more engagement pictures please visit my gallery. Thank you for viewing and happy planning!!!

Engagement Pictures in Spokane Washington

Getting the Best Engagement Pictures in Spokane Washington

When you are looking to get engagement pictures in Spokane Washington, you need to be aware of why these pictures are so important. There are a few practical uses for engagement pictures and there is the fact that they create a lasting memory of you and your new fiancée. They are important and the right photographer will ensure you get exactly what you want.

Choosing a photographer for your engagement pictures in Spokane Washington is an important thing to do. This will allow you to test their skills before the wedding and you will build confidence in the person you chose. By getting great engagement shots, you will know that you have the right professional for the big day.

One of the things many couples like to use their engagement pictures in Spokane Washington for is the invitation. Some photographers can even design these for you, but many designs now include some type of picture. This is a great way to use your pictures and show everybody you plan to invite exactly what you look like as a couple.

Choosing the Right Photographer for Your Engagement Pictures in Spokane Washington

There are many things to consider when you need to hire someone to take your wedding pictures and engagement pictures. It is important that you choose wisely or you could end up with someone that is just starting out, or simply does not have the necessary skills to help you preserve your memories forever.

The first thing you want to see whenever you are interviewing a photographer for your engagement pictures in Spokane Washington is a smile on their face. If they are not happy with taking pictures for a living, then they will not show the passion in their work necessary to give you the lasting memories you deserve from your big day.

Once you are sure they are passionate about the work they do, it is time to look at the profile they can provide for you. This will give you the ability to see exactly what they can give you when it comes to your pictures. They should be able to show off some of their favorite shots from past weddings and from other photo shoots.

What you really want to see, within their portfolio, is the emotion, the love, and the natural captured in each picture. You don’t want to see just a book full of posed pictures that show very little emotion. Good photographers can capture the little glances, the loving looks, and every emotion being shown in every picture.

Finally, you want to see how well the photographer interacts with you and your soon to be spouse. This is important because if they understand you, as a couple, and as individuals, then they will be able to capture you in ways you never thought possible. Great photographers can make everybody look better than they think they look and if your photographer fits well with you, it will be easier for them and for you.

Engagement Pictures in Spokane Washington – What I Offer

With every wedding I book, I give the couple a free engagement shoot (call for details) along with a full CD for re-printing any of the pictures they want to add to an album, send out with an invitation, or display. This is something not every photographer will do for you, but I believe it is necessary to get started off on the right foot with every couple and that happens with engagement pictures in Spokane Washington.

Engagement Pictures in Coeur d’ Alene Idaho

Getting the Best Engagement Pictures in Coeur d’Alene Idaho

When you get engaged, it is a very special time and you need to get engagement pictures in Coeur d’Alene Idaho to help remember this time. Engagement does not usually last all that long and will range from a few months to a few years. This is a time to remember in your life and you want to make sure you have the best pictures to freeze those memories forever.

The best photographers will include a free engagement shoot (call for details) when you book a wedding with them. This is their gift to you and you can use the engagement pictures in Coeur d’Alene Idaho for many different things. Another little gift they may give you is a CD with all your engagement pictures, so that you can reprint them however, you want and whenever you want.

It is not always easy to find the right photographer for your wedding and for your engagement pictures in Coeur d’Alene Idaho, but there are a few ways to ensure you get the right person. Below are a couple of tips you can use to help narrow down the list of photographers for your big day and one great way to use your engagement pictures.

Finding the Right Photographer for Your Engagement Pictures in Coeur d’Alene Idaho

Understand that the best photographers will fill up their wedding appointment book very fast. Some will even be booked years in advance. As soon as you set a date, you need to be looking for a photographer. This is the first decision you should make and you can even make this decision before you have a place booked for the wedding and reception.

You want to search online and find out if the photographers you are considering have a website and an online portfolio. This will help you to see their work and figure out whether they really are a talented photographer with a passion for taking pictures, or if they are just out to make a few dollars with an expensive camera.

After you have viewed their work online, and you like what you see, it is time to meet them in person. You want someone that is going to be very laid back with you and will make you feel comfortable. Planning a wedding and getting married is already stressful enough. You don’t need any added stress from a photographer that is not professional and relaxed.

Make sure you take the time to see their physical portfolio and ask them if they have any recent wedding pictures they have done for other couples. The recent pictures will show you what they are currently capable of doing. Sometimes the portfolio will be the absolute best shots they have taken, whereas seeing actual wedding pictures can show you the variety of what they took for one couple.

Using Your Engagement Pictures in Coeur d’Alene Idaho

The best way to use your free gift of an engagement shoot and full CD of pictures from the shoot (call for details) is to include a picture of you and your soon to be spouse with the wedding invitation. There are many designs out there to choose from and a handful of them include a picture of the couple. This is one of the best ways to introduce you and your partner, as a couple, to the people you want to invite.

If you book a wedding with me, I will include a free engagement shoot and a full CD you can use to reprint any of your engagement pictures in Coeur d’Alene Idaho as my gift to you (call for details).

Choosing A Sandpoint Engagement Photographer

Sandpoint engagement photographer

Sandpoint engagement photographer

What is a Sandpoint Engagement Photographer?

Many couples know they need to get a photographer for the wedding, but they are not sure about a Sandpoint engagement photographer. This is a very special time in your life and having a photo album created for your engagement is a great way to start your new journey together. This can be a very fun and light photo shoot and very different from the actual wedding photos.

The best part is most newly engaged couples are very happy and free. They have the time and the desire to have their pictures taken together. Love is a very special thing and capturing it when it is young, in any relationship, is simply amazing. The key is to choose the right Sandpoint engagement photographer to help capture you and your significant other within the loving embrace you share.

How to Choose the Right Sandpoint Engagement Photographer

This time in your life is very special and it should be fun. The last thing you probably want is some boring engagement photo like the one many couples use for their local newspaper. Instead, you should have a professional shoot outside where you can be a couple together having fun. This will make for the best type of pictures.

With that said, you will need to look for a Sandpoint engagement photographer with a specialty in natural light photography. Being outside with your new fiancée can provide for very light, fun, and amazing pictures to celebrate your engagement. However, if you don’t have a skilled photographer the pictures may not turn out the way you are hoping.

One of the best ways you can find the right Sandpoint engagement photographer for your outdoor photo shoot is to look at the portfolio of the different photographers in the area that specialize in natural light photography. This will help you to find the one that will give you the best opportunity for the best pictures.

Your engagement photos should help to remind you of how happy you are together and how young your love is. This is a great reminder throughout your marriage and you can always look through this album to see how things were when your love was much younger. The right photographer will catch you just the way you want.

Your Sandpoint Engagement Photographer and the Connection

The main goal of any good Sandpoint engagement photographer is to capture the connection between the couple. Their love is the reason they are getting their pictures taken and capturing this time in their lives. When the camera is able to capture this love between the two, it can be absolutely amazing.

You can tell by looking through the work of any photographer if they are able to capture that connection or not. A photographer that can capture the love between a newly engaged couple is the right choice for your engagement pictures. Take the time to find the Sandpoint engagement photographer with this connection captured in their portfolio.
